In 1997, with a tourist visa, Tahir came to the USA, from Pakistan, after graduating from university. Several years later, Immigration put Tahir in removal proceedings in New York City. Before the Immigration Judge, Tahir applied for withholding of removal. In 2004, the Immigration Judge ordered his removal from the USA, but granted him withholding of removal. Mr. Huang had a pretty good asylum claim. He came to the USA from China. In China, his wife was forced to undergo an abortion in March, 2000. Her abortion was extremely painful to both spouses. After the abortion, she became depressed and physically weak. She became epileptic. Subsequently, Mr. Huang joined a home church, an underground church, to seek spiritual comfort. Someone reported his church activities to the local government. On January 2, 2008, Mr. Huang received a summons which ordered him to report to the public security bureau, that is, the police, on January 3, 2008, for questioning. Read more →

South American Woman Obtains Permanent Resident Status

Miriam entered the USA with a tourist visa in 2006. She is a painter, and had sold many paintings in her native, South American country. Two years ago, with her partner, Miriam drove to upstate New York, from New York City, to show a handful of her paintings to a prospective buyer. Near Buffalo, ICE Officers approached Miriam and asked her for identification. Miriam’s partner, Fabiola, a U.S. citizen, tried to intervene, but the Officers told her to stay in her car and not to get in the way. ICE took Miriam into custody and served her with Form I-862, Notice to Appear in Removal Proceedings (the “NTA”).
